January – Visit Prespes Lakes

Take a trip to Prespes, two enchanting freshwater lakes in Western Macedonia, on the north borders of Greece. Discover a beautiful destination that is part of the Natura 2000 Network and includes aquatic habitats listed in the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance. Go bird-watching in the Prespes National Park, equipped with a telescope or a set of binoculars, and drink in the lovely view of the waterfowl and migratory birds who nest and winter there. Enjoy a boat trip in the Prespes Lakes area; visit the ruins of Byzantine churches on the islets; and taste delicious dishes with lake fish, red Florina peppers and large dried white runner beans [gigantes] in local tavernas.
