November – Visit Olympus

This part of the Greek mainland is the celebrated abode of the ancient Greek gods. The country’s highest mountain offers visitors a world of options for a most enjoyable stay. The action seekers among you can go trekking, climbing, mountain biking, canyoning, paragliding, rafting or have a jeep safari adventure on Mt. Olympus, which is a listed nature reserve since 1938. Make sure you visit the traditional villages dotting the mountainsides, such as Litochoro – a good starting point for your hiking adventures in the nearby green Enipeas Gorge. At the foot of the mountain lies Dion, Macedonia’s ancient holy city, at a 5km distance from the seashore. Visit its famous archaeological site where remains of temples, theatres, a stadium, cemeteries and thermae were unearthed. The excavations revealed a town which was inhabited for more than a thousand years from the 5th c. BC to the 5th c. AD, and prospered during the time of Alexander the Great.
